Introduction

Over the years in practice, one of the most common things I hear from patients is: “I sit all day for work and my back just stiffens up. I should probably get a decent chair.”

While no office chair can magically “fix” back pain, I do think the right workstation setup can make a meaningful difference to day-to-day comfort — particularly for people spending long periods sitting at a desk.

One thing I have learned as a chiropractor is that there is no single “perfect posture” that suits everybody. People come in different heights, body shapes, mobility levels, and working habits. That is why personal preference matters far more than simply buying the most expensive chair available.

That said, if you are not sure which chair is right for you, I do like the Desktronic SitPro and SitOne office chairs. Both are designed to allow multiple areas to be adjusted so the chair fits the individual user — rather than forcing the person to awkwardly adapt to the chair.

Who Might Benefit From an Ergonomic Office Chair?

An adjustable ergonomic chair may be particularly useful for:

  • Office workers
  • People working from home
  • Gamers
  • Students
  • Crafters
  • Anyone spending prolonged periods sitting

Research suggests that prolonged sitting, particularly in poor sustained postures, can lead to:

Hence why the right chair for you can improve your posture and therefore lead to fewer problems in the spine.

The chair is of course one piece of the puzzle. Regular movement, walking and exercise still matter enormously. This is why I also recommend a good quality standing desk, which allows position variation throughout the day — our spines crave this.

If you are suffering with daily stiffness and discomfort from sitting, combining a chair that fits with a standing desk that improves movement habits can often make a significant difference to comfort and sitting tolerance over time.

What Do I Like About the Desktronic Chairs?

The biggest positive from my perspective is that Desktronic chairs have adjustability in the areas that matter without being overly expensive.

Many standard office chairs only allow very basic seat height adjustment. In reality, this often means the chair never properly fits the person using it.

The SitPro and SitOne from Desktronic both allow adjustment of multiple components including:

  • Seat height
  • Armrest positioning
  • Lumbar support
  • Recline function
  • Headrest positioning
  • Seat position

This matters because somebody who is 6 foot 4 and somebody who is 5 foot 2 are unlikely to feel comfortable using the exact same setup.

SitOne vs SitPro — Comparison Table

Desktronic offer two different chair options. The SitOne has six adjustable features compared with the SitPro’s nine. See below for a full comparison.

Desktronic SitOne

Desktronic SitOne ergonomic chair showing 6 adjustable points: headrest, 4D armrests, lumbar support, recline, sliding seat and height adjustment

The SitOne is probably the sensible choice for most people wanting:

  • A good-quality ergonomic office chair
  • Strong adjustability without overspending
  • A clean minimalist setup
  • Comfort for regular home office use

If you work from home several days per week and simply want a chair that feels supportive and adjustable without entering premium pricing territory, this is likely the best starting point.

From a chiropractor’s perspective, I particularly like that the chair encourages better workstation positioning by allowing the armrests, lumbar area and sitting position to be adjusted more effectively than cheaper office chairs. These changes can make a significant difference to comfort.

Desktronic SitPro

Desktronic SitPro ergonomic chair showing 9 adjustable points for maximum customisation and comfort

The SitPro is the chair I would generally lean towards recommending for people who:

  • Want maximum ergonomic adjustability
  • Suffer with discomfort in the mid to upper back
  • Are over 6 foot tall
  • Are particularly sensitive to discomfort from prolonged sitting

The biggest difference is really the overall level of refinement and adjustability. For heavier daily users, having more adjustment options can make a significant difference over time — especially if you have struggled to find chairs comfortable previously.

In particular, one of the features on the SitPro allows the whole backrest height to move up and down, which is particularly useful for taller people. Being 6 foot 1 myself, I often find that the supporting curves on chairs are simply too low for my spine.

My Experience With Desktronic

Although I currently use one of the Desktronic standing desks in my treatment room rather than the office chairs themselves, my experience with the company overall has been very positive.

A few things that stood out to me:

  • Quick free delivery
  • Clear instructions provided
  • Assembly was straightforward
  • Good communication from customer support
  • A reassuring 5-year warranty
  • A 30-day trial period for peace of mind

One thing I particularly like is that the company seems to focus heavily on long-term usability rather than simply appearance or marketing. From my experience so far, the products feel thoughtfully designed and aimed at people genuinely spending significant time working at desks.

Who Are Ergonomic Chairs NOT Suitable For?

An ergonomic chair is not automatically the answer for everybody. I would be more cautious recommending expensive ergonomic chairs to people who:

  • Can sit comfortably for long periods in their current chair without any problems
  • Rarely use a desk setup
  • Spend very little time sitting during the day
  • Would benefit more from improving general movement and exercise habits first

I personally do not use an ergonomic chair in clinic as I simply do not have a need for it. The reasons for this are: I do not spend much time sitting in one place during a clinic shift; I use a sit-stand desk; and I find my stool on wheels more convenient during treatments.

I also think some people become overly focused on achieving a “perfect posture.” In reality, remaining completely rigid in one position all day is never good — even in a good chair. Sitting in the perfect chair in the perfect position is still only one part of the picture if you sit too much.

What I Look For in ANY Office Chair

Regardless of brand, the main things I generally recommend looking for are:

  • Adjustable lumbar support
  • Adjustable armrests
  • Seat height adjustment
  • Adjustable headrest
  • Adjustable recline
  • Comfort during prolonged sitting

Frequently Asked Questions

Can an ergonomic office chair help back pain?

For the right person, yes. I have had many patients over the years notice improvement in comfort when their workstation setup is better suited to them. However, chairs are rarely the entire solution on their own.

Is a more expensive ergonomic chair always better?

Not necessarily. The main thing I would look for is overall comfort rather than simply price. If you have a basic cheap chair but it feels great, I would not change it.

Should I still use a standing desk with an ergonomic chair?

In most cases, yes. I generally think alternating between sitting and standing throughout the day is preferable to remaining in either position continuously. See my standing desk review for more detail.

How difficult are the chairs to assemble?

From my experience with Desktronic products generally, assembly instructions are clear and straightforward to follow — though allow a little more than the 30-minute average assembly time stated on their website.

Do the chairs come with a warranty?

Yes — Desktronic currently offer a 5-year warranty as well as a 30-day trial period.

What colours are the Desktronic chairs available in?

The SitOne is available in five colours: black, grey, olive green, midnight blue and muted pink. The SitPro is currently available in two: black and grey.

Final Thoughts

For me, ergonomic office chairs work best as part of a broader, healthier working setup — not as a miracle cure. I still encourage people to move regularly, walk frequently, stretch, exercise, and avoid staying in any one position for too long.

That said, having a chair that properly adjusts to your body can absolutely improve day-to-day comfort if you spend long hours sitting. What I particularly like about the Desktronic SitPro and SitOne is the emphasis on adjustability and adaptability rather than simply aesthetics. For many people, that can make a meaningful difference over time.
